The first Air Force Test Center strategic offsite meeting since Brig. Gen. Christopher Azzano became AFTC commander in August was held recently at Arnold Air Force Base, Tenn.,A: I want them to know how incredibly important AEDC is to the Air Force Test Center and to the defense of our nation.,So looking at the hundreds of millions of dollars directed to AEDC to develop and sustain next-generation infrastructure for hypersonics research, I see a unique opportunity for the Air Force Test Center.,When you look at a wing-level organization like Arnold, you see a consolidation of like-mission areas under one organization, and that is where I as a Center commander and where my superiors at the MAJCOM and Air Force level have the opportunity to influence an entire collection of missions.,Prior to AFMC’s re-organization in 2012, our enterprise leads operated independently through the Arnold Engineering Development Center, Air Force Flight Test Center, and the Air Armament Center, as they were known at the time.
Tucson attorney Ali Farhang recently phoned Oakland Raiders president Marc Badain, introduced himself and pitched a plan for the Raiders to play their 2019 home schedule at Arizona Stadium.,The man who created the Arizona Bowl and has become part-owner of the indoor football league’s Tucson Sugar Skulls, is not shy about an attempt to execute a grandiose Act III, putting the National Football League in Tucson — if only for a season.,+1
Before settling in Las Vegas, the NFL’s Raiders would be smart to call Tucson home in 2019, Ali Farhang believes.,Or, perhaps, the Raiders could be creative, schedule a preseason game or two at Arizona Stadium, and play the ’19 regular-season schedule — eight home games — in a variety of Western cities.,In the hallway to his office is a subway sign that reads:
BOSTON (CBS) — Bill Belichick and Nick Saban have done their share of winning on the football field.,Prior to that championship tilt, Belichick sat down with ESPN’s Tom Rinaldi to chat about his relationship with Saban, which dates back to the early 1980s when Saban was coaching with Belichick’s father at the Naval Academy.,Belichick hired Saban to be his defensive coordinator in Cleveland in 1991, and even when they were AFC East foes in 2005 (when Saban was head coach of the Miami Dolphins), Saban made sure to attend the funeral for Belichick’s father despite it taking place in the middle of a game week.,So the two all-time coaches have a pretty good feel for each other, which led to some interesting responses during Rinaldi’s sitdown (Saban also shared his thoughts on Belichick for the piece).,And while Belichick probably doesn’t like to see his buddy lose on the biggest stage, Monday night’s Alabama loss may be good news for the Patriots.
Not only did the game have meaning on the national level, it was a game that attracted the attention of local football fans in the Wyoming Valley with Meyers graduate Raghib “Rocket” Ismail playing for Notre Dame, and GAR’s Greg Skrepenak playing on the offensive line for Michigan.,With less than a minute left in the game, Colorado punted to Ismail and he returned it nearly 90 yards for what appeared to be the game-winning touchdown.,In an interview with The Citizens’ Voice in October prior to the final football game between Meyers and GAR, Ismail recalled a visit from Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz while he was recruiting Ismail.,In 1990, Ismail received the Walter Camp Award, an honor given to college football’s player of the year as voted on by major college football coaches and sports information directors.,... Senior year, Ismail rushed for 2,210 yards and 35 touchdowns and was named to PARADE’s All-America team.
Before he knew the next opponent, owner Jerry Jones likened the recovery of his Dallas Cowboys from 3-5 to their first playoff win in four years to a boom-or-bust wagon train headed to California.,The other big change, also during the open week, was firing first-year offensive line coach Paul Alexander and promoting someone familiar with what had helped the Cowboys mold one of the best blocking units in football in former player and assistant line coach Marc Colombo.,In his first year, coach Sean McVay led LA to the NFC West title in the franchise's first winning season in 14 years, including a 35-30 victory at the Cowboys after falling behind 24-13.,Dallas has gone to Oxnard for training camp every year since 2010, and Jones played a pivotal role in getting league approval of LA owner Stan Kroenke's move from St. Louis three years ago.,The Rams' new stadium doesn't open until 2020, so the first playoff meeting between these teams since 1986 will be in the same place as that 20-0 LA victory: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Gus Bradley was successful in coming up with a game plan to thwart an athletic rookie quarterback making his first postseason start.,A day after Los Angeles advanced with a 23-17 victory over Baltimore in an AFC wild-card game, Bradley and the rest of the Chargers were beginning to prepare to face the most experienced postseason quarterback in NFL history in Tom Brady, who will make his 38th playoff start for New England on Sunday.,According to Sportradar, the 58 snaps are the most any team has gone with quarter personnel (seven defensive backs) in any game since the NFL's Next Gen Stats came online in 2014.,Lynn said he was surprised by Bradley's idea to use it the entire game and that it led to lots of discussion with the coaching staff leading up to the game, but in the end it was the best move to make.,Bradley's strategy in that game was to use six defensive backs on 53 of 82 plays.
But as the Patriots quarterback began his preparations for Sunday's divisional playoff game with the Chargers, he said he only had to think back to their AFC championship game matchup during the 2007 season to remind himself of Rivers' toughness.,New England won that day and Brady enters Sunday's game with a 7-0 record as a starter against Rivers, including 4-0 in games played in Foxborough and 2-0 in the playoffs.,Brady was sidelined for that game by a knee injury he sustained in the Patriots' season opener and Matt Cassel started in his place.,While Brady won't have any new personnel to throw to, he did spend New England's bye week trying to fine-tune his own skills by working out with personal throwing coach Tom House.,"We've earned the right to be playing in this weekend's game and we've got a great opportunity," Brady said.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — A nonprofit group has proposed building a $7 million indoor turf facility for soccer and other sports in Council Bluffs.,The proposed Iowa West Sports Plex awaits a city Planning Commission vote Tuesday and a City Council vote that would likely happen later this month, The Daily Nonpareil reported .,"The Iowa West Sports Plex will provide a much-needed home for our young athletes to be able to play the sports they love all year round and not have to travel outside of our community to do so," said Pete Tulipana, the group's president and CEO.,The facility would be operated and managed by the Council Bluffs Soccer Club.,"We want our kids to be involved in Council Bluffs clubs, but if we don't have the facilities to practice and play year-round, it limits our options," she said.
