“Every shoe in our collection, in a way great or small, reflects the spirit of Mr. Onitsuka,” Fukui says, referring to the late Kihachiro Onitsuka, the company founder and a father of the modern global running movement.,After pausing a moment to let their importance register, Fukui adds: “These are the shoes that Viren asked Mr. Onitsuka to work on the night before the race.,The first global running boom had taken wing, and Onitsuka Tiger shoes dominated among elite athletes and citizen-runners.,Mr. Onitsuka’s octopus moment, however, preceded that by decades. After an exhaustive one-man sales campaign—the young entrepreneur slept on train station benches because he couldn’t afford lodging, inquired at police stations for the location of sporting-goods stores, and spent countless hours courting coaches at far-flung gyms—the Onitsuka basketball shoes proved a hit.,A few years later, Mr. Onitsuka turned his attention to designing a shoe for the marathon, at the time a fringe enterprise in the rest of the world, but well respected in Japan, with its traditional emphasis on discipline and endurance.A nonrunner himself, Mr. Onitsuka approached the challenge with a beginner’s mind.
My “home” location — on North Fourth Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, next to the Whole Foods across from the Apple store — was proposed to me, by WeWork’s unusually thoughtful and candid public-relations representatives, as a particularly strong example of the company’s “community layer” at work.,She knows when the printer by the sunglasses and accessories manufacturer is going to run out, and when Ulrik, the chief executive of the Danish software-platform company that is the location’s largest tenant, is arriving on a red-eye and will require early-hours access.,It was the idea of her own office, which she selected before the space had a floor, that gave her the confidence to start a business — a common sentiment at WeWork and one I heard particularly often from women and people of color — and on move-in day, she hung up her shingle as a private C.P.A. Though she never advertised, she quickly outgrew herself; she told me that 90 percent of her customers have come through WeWork, either via hallway run-ins or through the social-networking features of its mobile app.,As of this January, WeWork has 400,000 members in 425 locations in 27 countries, at least 30 percent of whom are employees of large existing businesses.,The conviction behind the rapid growth of WeWork is that the office culture of the future is likely to be the culture of the future, full stop, and that it is WeWork’s special vocation to bring it to market.
I guess the first thing you should know about me is that I tend to mispronounce Lancaster.,I want to hear from you — our readers — about places in Fairfield County I should visit and experience.,Of course, there are certain must-see events, like the Lancaster Festival and the Fairfield County Fair, but I'm positive there are even more.,I can be found most Friday nights in the fall on the sidelines of high school football games, where I have assisted the sports departments (mostly in Zanesville where I spent most of my career) in coverage.,This past fall, I watched my first game at Fulton Field when Sheridan played its playoff game against Columbus Eastmoor.
I’ve been writing about Juliana vs. US for over three years—slightly less time than the plaintiffs in the case have been waiting to have their day in court.,In the US judicial system, political questions are answered—or not—by the executive and legislative branches of government usually after their trial in the court of public opinion.,Interlocutory appeals are typically permitted when the trial judge certifies to the appellate court that there are substantial differences of opinion over an important question of law that once decided would substantially affect the final outcome of the case.,The trial court judge, Anne Aiken, issues an order certifying Juliana v. United States for interlocutory appeal to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.,The “AH, HA” moment when the future of Juliana came clear to me was the day after Christmas while reading that the Ninth Circuit Court Appeals panel of three judges granted the DOJ lawyers permission to bring the interlocutory appeal.

The traditional signing day Wednesday merely padded Oregon's already stellar recruiting class, the best in school history.,GETTING DEFENSIVE: Washington capped its recruiting class by landing two of the top defensive players on the West Coast.,Washington had seemed to be the favorite for Heimuli for most of the recruiting period, but his Menlo-Atherton team advancing to the state title game in California impacted his ability to make a decision in time for the December signing period.,The abrupt departure of new offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury after 34 days shook up the Trojans' recruiting class and led to the departure of receiver commit Bru McCoy, who spurned USC for Texas.,The day had an international flavor with the Utes bringing in 6-foot-7 offensive lineman Bamidele Olaseni, a native of London who played last year for Garden City Community College in Kansas, and fellow 6-foot-7 offensive lineman Luke Felix-Fualalo, a former rugby player in Australia who played last year for prep powerhouse Mater Dei in California.
WARWICK – Orange County could become a state leader in producing and researching a medically promising hemp chemical, if a local economic development agency has its way.,The Orange County Industrial Development Agency’s Accelerator recently announced plans to create a new $2.1 million branch focused on fostering the production of the hemp compound cannabidiol, or CBD, at the former state prison site in the Town of Warwick.,“We are getting in on the ground floor of creating a whole CBD industry with a full spectrum of jobs creating everything from food to nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, body and health care products,” said Vincent Cozzolino, managing director of the Orange County IDA and its Accelerator.,Orange County's CBD Accelerator will process hemp into CBD-rich oil and teach farmers and entrepreneurs about the hemp and CBD industries, Cozzolino said.,Warwick’s CBD Accelerator is “an opportunity to revitalize a New York farming industry that’s hurting,” McCauley said.
