HAMPTON, Va. —The Oklahoma wrestling team split the first day at the Virginia Duals, falling to No. 16/16 (NWCA/InterMat) 22-12 before upsetting No. 20/14 Lock Haven 23-12 in the consolation bracket.,The redshirt freshman took a 6-0 lead in the first period with a takedown and a four-point nearfall before adding two more takedowns in the second.,The bout was tied at 2-all late in the second period, but Thomas scored a takedown at the whistle to take a 4-2 lead into the third.,The unranked Sooners upset No. 20/14 (NWCA/InterMat) Lock Haven behind wins from Anthony Madrigal, Demas, Jeffries, Thomas, Anthony Mantanona, Jake Woodley and Jake Boyd.,The bout was tied at 2-all after the first period, but Woodley scored three takedowns in the second period to take a 6-3 lead.

The Sooners will open the tournament with No. 16 and defending champion Arizona State on Friday at 8 a.m. CT.,The eight-team tournament field features top-25 opponents in No. 16 Arizona State, No. 20 Lock Haven and No. 13 Virginia Tech.,In its last weekend of competition, Oklahoma downed West Virginia 26-17, before taking No. 20 Pitt to the wire in a narrow 20-17 loss.,The redshirt freshman is No. 8 in FloWrestling’s latest release and No. 8 in the Trackwrestling rankings.,Fellow redshirt freshman Jake Woodley (197) was tabbed No. 24 by Trackwrestling, and as a team, the Sooners are T-36 in the same rankings.
