But unlike HBO and “Game of Thrones,” WGN and the Cubs aren’t hyping their final season together after 72 years.,In my first year as Cubs beat writer in 1997, WGN televised 144 games.,The following January, the Cubs owners — Tribune Co. — decided to reduce the WGN schedule to 92 games, placing 62 games on CLTV, the company’s local cable news channel.,Fans gradually grew accustomed to watching more games on cable, and in 2003 the Cubs, White Sox, Bulls and Blackhawks began their own sports channel, Comcast SportsNet Chicago, which is now NBC Sports Chicago.,WGN will televise the Cubs' season opener — likely for the last time »

BOSTON (CBS) — The fact that the Pelicans could trade Anthony Davis without the Celtics being able to make an offer is hard enough for Boston fans to handle at the moment.,While the news since last summer has been largely about stars not interested in being LeBron’s sidekick—George’s decision to re-sign with the Thunder, Jimmy Butler not having the Lakers on his reported preferred list and Kawhi Leonard reportedly favoring the Clippers—a source close to the Celtics confirmed that Kyrie Irving is genuinely interested in reuniting with his former Cavaliers teammate.,What’s odd is that Kyrie nugget was buried at the bottom of Bucher’s column on the Davis trade request.,Davis demanded a trade from New Orleans on Monday, and if the Pelicans deal him before the Feb. 7 trade deadline, the Celtics would have to sit out the sweepstakes if Irving isn’t part of the deal due to the NBA’s “Rose Rule.”,Boston has been long-enamored by Davis and Danny Ainge has the young talent and future draft picks to make an enticing offer this summer, but they may not even get a shot at adding the franchise-altering talent of Davis. read more

Born from humble beginnings in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, CT The Alpaca Gnomes cut their teeth in the neighborhood bar scene by playing marathon shows filled with originals and a wide array of songs that were influential to each band member.,The Alpaca Gnomes have been fortunate enough to headline several shows at Infinity Hall(Norfolk, CT) The Warehouse(Fairfield, CT) Garcia’s at the Cap(Port Chester, NY) The Acoustic(Bridgeport, CT) BRYAC(Bridgeport, CT) Levitt Pavillion(Westport, CT) and have also appeared at such venues as Toad’s Place(New Haven,CT) Palace Theatre(Stamford, CT) Electric Haze(Worcester, MA) Mexicali Blues(Teaneck, NJ), Arlene’s Grocery(NY, NY) Alchemy(Providence, RI) and many others.,The gnomes have also found themselves at home on several festival lineups such as Pleasantville Music Festival(NY), Rock n Roll Resort (Kerhonksen, NY) International Festival of Arts & Ideas(New Haven, CT) Blues,Views, & BBQ(Westport,CT) Two Roads Brewery Road Jam(Stratford, CT) Riverfront Revival Music Fest(Shelton, CT) Soupstock Music & Arts Festvial(Shelton, CT) and more.,Greenwich Winter Sale & Giving Days to Benefit Think Greenwich - Downtown Greenwich, Byram, Cos Cob, Riverside, Old Greenwich

Ponder for just a moment, given the dire forecast, just how brutal the conditions might be at Gillette Stadium late on Sunday had the AFC Championship Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots been played there.,It not only gave the Broncos life in the game but life in the season, and they ended up being able to host the Patriots in the AFC Championship that year and went on to win the Super Bowl.,Kansas City’s secondary is a penalty flag waiting to happen, and they will try to be physical to prevent players like Edelman and James White getting free like they were against L.A. We’ll try these trends: The Patriots as underdogs the last few years have won five of six.,The last time the Rams were underdogs in a game of consequence they blistered Seattle 42-7 last year to win the NFC West.,Now, going against the above AFC pick, the home team has won the conference championship game in each of the last five years.

What more can be said about the playoff accomplishments of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick?,As Boomer Esiason recently noted, “as long as his offensive line holds up, and Melvin Gordon is able to control the line of scrimmage a little bit with the running game, this could be Philip’s best opportunity to finally break through against Tom Brady.”,Rivers is coming off a one of his best seasons, having passed for 269.2 yards per game, with 32 touchdowns against only 12 interceptions.,Tom Brady (Photo Credit: Maddie Meyer/Getty Images)

The Patriots offense was about as prolific this season yardage-wise as it has been in the past, collecting 266.1 passing yards and 127.3 rushing yards per game, good enough for top 10 in both categories.,But even though this year’s team went 8-0 at home, they just don’t look nearly as crisp as they have in the past, with Rob Gronkowski seemingly on his last legs, Tom Brady making more small mistakes here and there and the defense struggling against teams that can run the ball. read more

The wind will subside as a ridge of high pressure builds over Southern New England.,The sky will become partly sunny and temperatures will reach the low and middle 40s, which is quite pleasant for late January!,Rain could change back to snow briefly before ending Tuesday night, then a developing northwesterly wind will usher in a pretty good shot of arctic air.,A weak wave of low pressure could bring a period of light snow Wednesday night.,With high pressure in place over Southern New England, the wind will be light and the sky will be sunny.

Sam Ficken has appeared in five games with the Rams over the last two seasons.,He has appeared in four regular-season games over the past two seasons — with the Rams as an injury replacement for Greg Zuerlein, and in Los Angeles’ playoff loss last season to Atlanta.,Ficken was cut by the Rams on Oct. 3 — a few days before Los Angeles played at Seattle, a game in which Cairo Santos kicked for the Rams — making him an immediate free agent and available to be signed now.,Ficken was cut after missing a 28-yard field goal late in the Rams’ eventual 38-31 win, after which coach Sean McVay said, according to the Los Angeles Times, “When we get a chance to go up 13 in a game that’s been back and forth, those are plays that we have to be able to make, and make them consistently.”,Seattle is likely to bring in another kicker for competition as it did last season when Seattle signed Jason Myers in January and then signed Janikowski in April.
