Van Dyke capped a successful week that included being part of three victories for the Black Raiders at the Don Shilling Invitational in Le Mars by signing her letter of intent to run track and cross country at South Dakota State.,With an individual win in the 800 meters as well as helping the sprint medley and 4x400 relays to wins, Van Dyke, the Journal’s Metro Athlete of the Week, played a key role in helping the Black Raider girls to the team title.,Van Dyke is hoping to make it in the open 800 at Drake for the first time in her career, and is also looking to help the 4x400 and sprint medley also qualify.,The daughter of Dave and Vicki Van Dyke of Lawton, Iowa can become a four-time state qualifier in the 800, having finished 10th as a sophomore before earning a medal last year.,“I have been put in the open 400 a couple of times just so I don’t have to run so many (800s) this year,” Van Dyke said.
