COLUMBIANA — A longtime city police officer has been chosen to fill the police chief position vacated by Tim Gladis in November due to retirement.,On Tuesday, council unanimously approved hiring Bill Myers as police chief following the recommendation from City Manager Lance Willard.,Willard said that Myers has supervisory experience, and has worked with all of the city departments over the years.,I think he has a passion for our town, and a passion to get out there and hit the streets and continue working with the storefront owners and the community,” Willard said.,Willard said the Civil Service Commission will provide the city with a list of the top 10 candidates to choose from and that the list is typically good for two years or until depleted.

Coler, 64, West Calla Road, Salem, was cited for right of ways at stop signs following a two-vehicle crash at Pine Lake and Seacrist Roads at 7:54 a.m. Feb. 10 in which he was northbound and failed to yield from the stop sign, striking a westbound vehicle driven by Rose Arlene Roelen, 60, Hickory Lane, Salem, causing her vehicle to spin out of control and strike a utility pole on the northwest side of the intersection.
