Ned Lamont, which they believe would force or coerce communities into regionalizing their school systems or sharing superintendents.,“Small local school districts that choose to have inefficient governance structures and too many expensive superintendents can no longer expect the state to bear the costs of these decisions,” Lamont’s budget documents says.,Small districts — defined as having fewer than 10,000 residents, fewer than 2,000 students or with only one or two elementary schools — that have their own superintendent would be required to “receive direction concerning the supervision of [its] schools” from another district’s superintendent or name a ‘chief executive officer’ to oversee the schools, according to Lamont’s proposal, Senate Bill 874.,Another key portion of Lamont’s bill would give priority for bonding to larger schools and districts that pool resources, share superintendents and back-office functions.,Another aspect of the bill that is troubling for some is the establishment of a Commission on Shared School Services to develop a plan “for the redistricting or consolidation of school services and school districts.”

Sinclair Broadcast Group said Tuesday it expects to generate signficant cash — up to $50 million annually — from the Chicago Cubs regional sports network it will launch in 2020.,Chris Ripley, Sinclair’s president and chief executive officer, said the Maryland-based broadcaster is looking at the Cubs TV network, announced earlier this month, as a boon to the bottom line and a model to partner with other teams.,The Marquee Sports Network, as it will be called, will become the exclusive TV home of the Cubs, ending 70 years of local over-the-air broadcasts and moving all of the games to cable and satellite.,The current Cubs local TV schedule is split between WGN-Ch.9, WLS-Ch.7 and NBC Sports Chicago, the regional sports network formed in 2004.,The Cubs represent Sinclair's first foray in a regional sports network.
MARIETTA — Washington County Commissioners denied a request from Friends of the Lower Muskingum River Thursday that would have allowed the organization to apply for a grant from the Clean Ohio Fund to purchase 223 acres of land.,“(The property) is in Washington County, into Morgan County up to McConnelsville,” said Tiffany Harvey, executive director for the nonprofit Friends of the Lower Muskingum River.,Harvey told the commissioners the money wouldn’t come from the residents of Washington County.,* Flite Freimann, director of Washington County Job and Family Services, presented the commissioners with an updated lease for the use of the 60 acres of land surrounding the County Home as low-income senior housing.,The lease was not signed at that time due to the commissioners’ concern over an incorrect amount of land needed that was stated in the original contract.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s budget proposal includes several new taxes or tax hikes, part of a spending plan that includes more than $1 billion in new revenues.,A bag tax already exists in several municipalities including Chicago, which could be exempted under Pritzker’s proposal.,The state tax would generate between $19 million and $23 million, the administration estimates, depending in part on whether Chicago claims an exemption.,Estimated revenue: $10 million
