WESTPORT, CT — A 19-year-old Westport man was arrested on a warrant and charged over the weekend in connection with a child pornography investigation by Westport police that began in April 2020.
Sam Gold surrendered to police on Saturday and was charged with second-degree possession of child pornography; tampering with evidence; interfering with a police search; and interfering with an officer. According to Westport police, last April, the department “received information that a town resident was possibly downloading child pornography onto his computer,” and the sergeant investigating it discovered the IP address of the computer was to a Westport home.
“A search warrant was then applied for and granted to search the computers and electronic devices at the address in question,” police said. “During the execution of the search warrant, one of the residents, Sam Gold, allegedly tampered with some of the devices that the investigating detectives were attempting to inspect. During an examination of the devices that were seized, suspected images of child pornography allegedly downloaded by Sam Gold were located.” Patch reached out to Westport Police Lt. David Wolf for more information on how many images were found, and how the suspect attempted to tamper with the equipment, but he declined to elaborate.
Gold was released after posting bond on bail of $100,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 9.
