HACIENDA HEIGHTS (CBSLA) — The identity of a 9-year-old girl found murdered on a hiking trail in Hacienda Heights last week has finally been determined.,The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported Sunday that the girl whose body was found partially inside a duffel bag along the 3400 block of South Hacienda Boulevard, near Glenmark Drive, on the morning of Tuesday, March 5, was identified as 9-year-old Trinity Love Jones, an L.A. County resident.,At a candlelight vigil Sunday evening where her body was found, Jones’ father, Antonio Jones, confirmed to CBS2 that his family believes Trinity was the little girl who was found in some bushes along the trail by some workers.,A sketch released by sheriff’s investigators last week showed a young, skinny girl without shoes, a pink shirt with “Future Princess Hero” written on it and panda pants.,Detectives believe Jones’ body may have been dumped on the trail on Sunday, March 3.

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – KTLA5 news anchor Chris Burrous, who was found unconscious in a Glendale motel room and pronounced dead at a hospital in December, died of methamphetamine toxicity, authorities announced Friday.,Burrous’ death on Dec. 27 has been ruled accidental, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.,Police were contacted at 1:15 p.m. that day by a caller who said a man he was with at the Days Inn, 450 Pioneer Drive, had passed out and was possibly not breathing, according to Sgt. Dan Suttles of the Glendale Police Department.,Glendale firefighters found Burrous, 43, inside the motel room, not breathing, Suttles said.,In addition to methamphetamine toxicity, coroner’s officials say other contributing factors in Burrous’ death include hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular heart disease.

NORTHRIDGE — The coroner’s office on Monday released the names of both people killed in a two-car crash in Northridge that left four other people injured.,The driver was Stephen Hook, 61, of the Sherwood Forest neighborhood of Northridge and his passenger, Meredith Smith, 62, of Lancaster, according to the coroner’s office.,Hook died at a local hospital.,The other car, described as a sedan, was occupied by four adults.,The driver and front passenger were briefly trapped in the wreckage and were taken to a hospital in critical condition, while two rear passengers were hospitalized in serious condition, Humphrey said.

Seneca County commissioners approved the purchase of 180 new voting machines on behalf of the Seneca County Board of Elections at its meeting Tuesday morning.,The total price of the ExpressVote equipment from Election Systems & Software, of Omaha, Nebraska, is a little more than $1,065,000 with the state paying about $648,392, leaving about $416,392 as the county’s portion of the cost as well as $16,000 per year in maintenance costs and the possibility of $60,000 per year in maintenance fees beginning in the sixth year of use.,After investigation into reducing the cost, board of elections personnel reported the only way to reduce costs for the county would be to reduce the number of machines purchased, which was not optimal for the number people in the county who vote during governor and presidential election years.,The commissioners approved advertising for bids for a new roof and other improvements to Seneca County Opportunity Center at no cost to the county.,Also Tuesday, the commissioners voted 2-1 to approve a third appraisal on 37.5 acres of land adjacent to the Seneca County Airport owned by airport manager Brad Newman.

A Midlands man has died following a single-vehicle crash in Fairfield County Thursday night.,According to the Fairfield County Coroner's Office, 34-year-old Tamarkquay Coleman of Blair was the passenger in a 2005 Nissan Altima traveling on Highway 215 near Ladds Road.,Troopers say the driver was traveling south on Highway 215 and ran off the left side of the road and hit several trees.,At this time troopers do not know if either of the men were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.,The corner's office as well as the South Carolina Highway Patrol continue to investigate the accident. read more
